It's been a while since Pong last visited Starbucks over at RP Manila. It has been a long while since Pong last shared a conversation with the barista that caught his eye. They'd eventually meet up again. It's bound to happen, you know...After downing his lunch at Chicken Bacolod and a jumbo carrot-mango shake from The Big Chill, Pong trudged towards Starbucks where Michele and Estee would be grabbing Grande Frappe's. Once he got in, Pong looked over at the counter near the door and there she was... A barista sporting a nameplate that spelled "Des" looked up from the cup she was wiping and managed a curtsy "Hello..." followed by a smile. Pong, being as gentle as a man could ever be, returned the greeting with his own "Hello..." and a brief smile.
Des went on to finish wiping the cup and put it in the cupboard. Pong , Estee, and Michele huddled for a while to discuss what they were having. Despite being full, Pong will not have himself backdown from a chance to chat once more with Des. And so, we find our hero walking up to the counter...
Pong: Grande Banana Cream Frappe...
Des: Grande Banana Cream Frappe... (while scribbling the details on the cup) May I have your name for the cup?
Pong: Pong...
Des: Pong?
Pong: Pong... (flashes a smile) Pong Pa...
Des: Pong Pagong... (smiles back)
Pong: Yup... Pong Pagong...
Then they both shared a brief giggle.
It's nothing... Really... They both know where they stand... She, behind the counter, and he, on the other side. That's as close as they can get...
Really now...
